Lauren and Nancy grew up in Irvine, California, in a highly musical family. Their mother, Judy Mayer, was an award-winning junior high school teacher who performed in community theater. Their father, Marty Mayer, is proudly tone-deaf but loved playing classical music, loudly, around the house. Lauren started piano lessons at age 3. Nancy played flute, violin, and piano before she settled on singing, and their brother, Ken, played piano and guitar. The sisters put on original shows as kids and are thrilled to continue their creative collaboration making "smart songs for super kids" in Curriculum Rocks! |

Nancy Pohlod has been a California public school teacher in Paso Robles for 13 years, teaching both first and fifth grade. Prior to that she was a unit leader for the Orange County Outdoor Science School. She is a certified Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) teacher and has taught numerous workshops for other teachers throughout California for the past 10 years. A graduate of University of Central Florida, Nancy did post-graduate work at Cal State Fullerton. She piloted the language arts program at her school and she runs the read-a-thon. Using music in education comes naturally to her. Nancy sang in honors choir in high school and as an outdoor science teacher, she was in charge of songleading. She is delighted to share her love of music and reading with her son. |
