Instructor Lauren Mayer is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Yale University, where she studied songwriting with Tony-award winner Maury Yeston and music history/conducting with Robert Kapilow. Writing songs is a uniquely effective way to strengthen retention and to engage students' attention; in addition to providing music enrichment, songwriting involves vocabulary, grammar, rhyming, and subject-area knowledge.
In this virtual program, we use songs familiar to your students to develop an awareness of song structure. Over several sessions, we work with you and your students to select a topic (chosen from your class curriculum), to get students' input, to work on rhymes and lyric development, and to create a finished song. We support students in creating individual recordings which we compile into a finished video, which can also be part of a school-wide virtual show where every class shares what they've created.
"Our students loved writing these songs, and they're learning, too!"
